Considerations for specific populations include recommendations on the use of dietary supplements: persons over 50 years of age should obtain the vitamin B12 RDA by eating fortified foods or taking a supplement; women of childbearing age should consume 400mcg/d of synthetic folic acid (from fortified foods or supplements); and the elderly and individuals with dark skin, as well as anyone with insufficient exposure to ultraviolet radiation, should consume 25 mcg/d of vitamin D from foods and supplements. 2.

So if you're out there taking coral calcium supplements or eating a lot of green leafy vegetables, but not getting sunlight or ultraviolet radiation on your skin, then you are probably not absorbing the calcium you are going to such great trouble to ingest. Reversing osteoporosis with sunlight Sunlight can actually reverse osteoporosis. A lot of senior citizens are taking calcium supplements but not getting sunlight, so the calcium is passing right through their bodies. As a result, they're losing bone mineral density.

Because of the dramatic increases over the past two decades, mostly because of overexposure to ultraviolet radiation from the sun, the National Cancer Institute has warned that 40 to 50 percent of all Americans who live to the age of sixty-five will eventually develop at least one skin cancer. There are several different types of skin cancer. The two most common skin cancers are basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma; most people who are diagnosed with skin cancer have one or the other of these types of the disease. Both are highly curable if treated early.
Ozone (O3) Ozone is beneficial only if it remains in the stratosphere, where a layer of it shields us from ultraviolet radiation. This form of oxygen, having three atoms rather than two, is toxic and can damage our health, the environment, trees, and crops. It is also corrosive to many materials. Normally, the health problems most experienced by ozone exposure include respiratory tract irritation, chest pain, coughing, increased susceptibility to lung infections, and an inability to catch one's breath.
Chlorella is very high in RNA and DNA, and has been found to protect against the effects of ultraviolet radiation. Studies show that chlorella is an excellent source of protein, especially for people who cannot or who choose not to eat meat. It is available from Sun Chlorella USA. [See Manufacturer and Distribution Information in the Appendix for further information.) Chlorophyll See under Chlorella and "Green Drinks" in this section. Chondroitin Sulfate Chondroitin sulfate is an important element in the creation of cartilage.
UV-B is ultraviolet radiation with a wavelength of 280-320 nanometers. The ozone layer absorbs most of this radiation, but a small amount gets through and can cause cataracts, pterygia (benign lesions that grow on either side of the cornea), and skin cancer. This especially is true for children, and their sunglasses should be as good or better than those of an adult. In other words, buy real sunglasses, not the kiddy models. Look for polycarbonate lenses, which are light, shatterproof, and optically sound. SUPPLEMENT NUTRIENTS SUGGESTED DOSAGE Desiccated liver As directed on label.

Michael Hollick explained in an interview, the excess vitamin D created through exposure to ultraviolet radiation is broken down and consumed by the body. It is essentially created and then destroyed, so the net effect is that your body will never, on its own, create too much vitamin D from sunlight exposure. The only way to overdose on vitamin D is to do it through supplementation or the mass consumption of substances like fish oils. Given the fact that people don't eat very much fish oil, it's very difficult to overdose unless you're actually chugging processed fish oil by the cupful.

I've frequently talked about natural sunlight and the tremendous benefits of exposing your skin to sensible levels of ultraviolet radiation. Those benefits include the prevention of various cancers, depression, osteoporosis, diabetes and the enhanced absorption of calcium, which makes stronger bones. If you want your child to have strong bones, then he or she needs to get some sunshine and physical activity, along with decent nutrition that includes calcium and magnesium. Organized sports are a great way to expose your child to these elements so that he or she can develop strong bones.

The FDA is also petitioning NASA to launch a mission to actually destroy the sun, thereby protecting humans from the dangers of ultraviolet radiation. All that is necessary for mainstream support of this agenda is for President Bush to declare the sun to be a terrorist in possession of nuclear weapons. "The sun is dangerous," the FDA said in a recent press release. "Just looking at it can make you go blind. What more proof do you need?

Instead of sunscreen, I use high antioxidants in my nutrition to protect me from excessive ultraviolet radiation, and since I've become a healthy individual and relied on nutrition, I've never experienced a sunburn. When I was in Hawaii, I took this Astaxanthin product as an experiment, and then spent three hours under the intense Hawaiian sun with no shirt on. There I was in the intense Hawaiian summer sun that would have burned me to a crisp years ago, doing some boogie boarding exercises and waiting to see if I would have a burn from it.

If you don't have high levels of antioxidants in your tissues, you may suffer skin damage from excessive ultraviolet radiation. By taking high levels of antioxidants, however, you will build up an internal sunscreen, and your skin's response to sun exposure will be very different. It will be healthy and adaptive, meaning that you won't burn. Instead, you will tan. This is true even if you've never tanned in your life. I know exactly what I'm talking about here -- I used to be one of the most fair-skinned people around. I would sunburn very easily.
It will also reduce inflammation and protect your nervous system, including your eyes, from damage from a variety of sources, including oxidative damage, free radical damage, and damage from ultraviolet radiation. Getting astaxanthin into your diet is very wise. You should also add superfood supplements to your diet. If you're not already taking a green foods product, I strongly urge you to order one and make it part of your daily diet. If you don't like the taste of it at first, keep in mind that you will get used to it, and you can start small.
If you can't get sunlight, visit a tanning booth to get ultraviolet radiation. It's a secondary choice, but it's better than doing nothing. Remember not to use tanning booths for too long, and be sure to have great nutrition for at least 30 days before tanning in a booth. If you can't get sunlight or get to a tanning booth, find other sources of vitamin D. The best source is cod liver oil, which you can mix into a delicious shake the same as you would most whole food supplements. If you do these things, you will simply amaze your doctor with your improved health.

UVB is ultraviolet radiation with a wavelength of 280 to 320 nanometers. The ozone layer absorbs most of this radiation, but a small amount gets through to the earth's surface, where it poses the same risks as UVA radiation. UV exposure is not only the major cause of wrinkles; it is responsible for 90 percent of most forms of skin cancer. People who have had severe or blistering sunburns, especially in childhood, are twice as likely to develop the disease later in life.
In severe cases, a doctor may prescribe an oral steroid (such as prednisone, prednisolone, or hydrocortisone) or the use of phototherapy (procedures involve the use of ultraviolet radiation). Q Allergy testing is advised, particularly for persistent rashes. (See allergies in Part Two.

Be vigilant about protecting your skin from the sun or any other source of ultraviolet radiation while you are using this medicine. • Ask about Nicomide-T gel or cream. This vitamin-based topical medicine can reduce inflammation and may be almost as effective as some topical antibiotics. • Oral antibiotics may work even when topical antibiotics do not. Be sure to ask your doctor about side effects and interactions, and follow the dosing instructions carefully. •Women may benefit from birth control pills. Sometimes the diuretic spironolactone provides additional anti-acne power.

While other human-made pollutants deplete the ozone in the upper atmosphere, emitting VOCs into the lower atmosphere produces an additional ozone layer that traps heat and ultraviolet radiation nearer to the earth's surface, adding to the levels of smog in cities caused by automobiles and other industrial pollution. California and New York have been the leaders in setting environmental standards for VOCs, and since 1998, they have not allowed the sale of any hairspray containing more than 55% VOC. No other state since has established such strict regulations.

If you put your skin under ultraviolet radiation, whether it's a tanning bed or sunlight, you skin is going to produce vitamin D. That makes a tanning bed a rather useful medical device (as long as it is used safely). Thus, tanning beds can actually treat -- yes, treat -- osteoporosis, depression and even various cancers. You can quote me on that. But of course, thanks to our modern environment of FDA-enforced medical censorship and oppression on anything related to real health, tanning salon operators would be arrested if they made such claims.

Its protective effect against ultraviolet radiation was reported to be due, in part, to an antioxidant effect.32 One of the in vivo human studies confirming this activity was performed at Massachusetts General Hospital's dermatology department.33 Another study (with hairless mice), conducted at Harvard medical school in 1999, reported that a samambaia extract applied topically helped to avoid skin damage and sun-associated skin aging, as well as reduced the number of UV-induced skin tumors in mice.

Studies show that sunlight exposure actually prevents skin cancer rather than causing it, and that nutrition is the crucial element in preventing sunburns and protecting you from excessive ultraviolet radiation. In fact, these theories won't be accepted until the defenders of the old theories actually die. They may die of skin cancer by the way, because they don't believe in nutrition. Vitamin D is produced by your skin in response to exposure to ultraviolet radiation from natural sunlight. The healing rays of natural sunlight (that generate vitamin D in your skin) cannot penetrate glass. So you don't generate vitamin D when sitting in your car or home. It is nearly impossible to get adequate amounts of vitamin D from your diet. Sunlight exposure is the only reliable way to generate vitamin D in your own body. A person would have to drink ten tall glasses of vitamin D fortified milk each day just to get minimum levels of vitamin D into their diet.
We need ultraviolet radiation in certain doses in order to live as healthy human beings. Why? Well, think about it. Your ancestors evolved on a planet where they were frequently exposed to the sun. Your ancestors didn't spend eight hours a day huddled over a computer breathing office air and living under fluorescent lighting. They didn't live in apartment complexes and drive around in cars that shielded them from the sun. They were exposed to the sun all the time. Sun is part of our heritage. Sunlight is necessary for us to be healthy human beings.
As you protect your nervous system with these supplements, you will also be simultaneously protecting your skin from excessive ultraviolet radiation. Taking these supplements on a regular basis will allow you to be in the sunlight for a longer period of time without burning. This is a very common experience, and something you can easily experience yourself. If you choose to experiment with this, do it with caution and test your exposure limits intelligently. Natural sunlight is not only good for you, it is also one of many cures for cancers.
Astaxanthin also works as an internal nutritional sunscreen and actually boosts your skin's tolerance to ultraviolet radiation. It's one of my secrets for avoiding sunburn and getting a nice tan, even when I naturally have very white skin. Astaxanthin's protective benefits also extend to the eyes and the entire nervous system. When it comes to the amount of sun exposure you should get, strive to get at least 30 minutes of direct sunlight three times a week, as long as you don't overdo exposure in terms of your tolerance to ultraviolet radiation. I don't recommend that anyone get sunburned just trying to treat depression, but I do recommend as much sunlight as you can safely handle. The more time you spend outside, the closer you are to nature in terms of following the cycles of the sun, and the healthier you're going to be.

They will likely give birth to healthier infants if they are currently expecting, and if they have darker skin, they will experience phenomenal health benefits as a result of increasing their exposure to ultraviolet radiation, so that's a very encouraging number. Similarly, 58.2 percent have increased their consumption of nutritional supplements and more than two-thirds, 67.3 percent, have increased their consumption of superfoods like spirulina, quinoa and blueberries.
